Time Flies!

It seems like just yesterday I was checking into the hospital having a nervous breakdown about the c-section --- yet, Daniel is over 5 weeks old! It's crazy how fast time can fly when you are busy!

The birth: My c-section went much better, I was in the hospital only the required 48 hours, no extra. No wound infection this time, and at my postpartum appointment, my OB said everything looks great, apparently the incision looks much better than he expected. He said it looks like at least a 6 month old scar! During my stay in the hospital we all picked up the crud and that made the first two weeks pretty miserable. Natalie ended up with pneumonia.

Between all the appointments for Daniel and Natalie, I think we have been at the doctor at least 6 times since Daniel was born. He seems to be growing well, at his one month appointment he was 9 lb 13 oz. We are having some problems with him, but we are working through them. Daniel is having the same reflux issues Natalie had but much worse and much earlier. He is on medication for that and it seems to be helping somewhat, but he still has several periods of the day were he seems to be in excruciating pain. I had some suspicions that he was tongue tied and my pediatrician confirmed that last week at his check up. We are currently awaiting an appointment with a specialist to discuss whether we will have his frenulum clipped or not.

Daniel is changing so much, he does some babbling and lifts his head a ton. We have recently noticed some smiles and such, he seems to be developing slowly compared to Natalie. But she was always ahead... the pediatrician isn't worried at all about his development, and I think we will notice some improvements if we can get the reflux and such under control.

Pictures later...

Natalie is a GREAT big sister. She loves her little brother, perhaps a bit too much! She loves helping take care of him. She is growing up so fast, and its even more obvious now that we have Daniel to compare with. She is talking in sentences and asking all sorts of fun questions. She seems to be very intelligent, but I figured she would be.

Personal stuff: had post partum depression again, finally got that under control, I am exhausted, I got a new laptop, Tommy did a really neat extra project on the side at work, we are doing great... sorry this is so hard to follow, my brain is fried!

Hope everyone is well!

Getting there!

FIVE MORE DAYS, well, actually I consider it 4 because today is basically over! I had my last OB appointment today - WOOHOO, no more waiting an hour to be seen with a cranky two year old! It went about how I expected it to. I got the ultrasound, baby passed the biophysical profile... they guess he will weigh somewhere between 8 and 9 pounds at birth on Monday! His heart rate was 155 today and he was moving and breathing great. Then I waited to see the doctor, blood pressure and all looked great, he basically said "any questions? see you Monday!" So, as long as baby stays put for a few more days we are on for Monday! And, he better because my doctor will actually be gone the rest of the week!! And, at this point, he has made me wait this long, I would prefer that he come when he is scheduled so we have no problems getting someone to care for Natalie, etc.

We are busting our butts trying to get the last minute stuff done before Baby arrives. We have the house basically clean, but every night we have a task or two we are trying to get done. Things that are more last minute, like vacuuming and steam cleaning carpets, organizing the fridge, etc. We also have to get the new fish tank set up - Natalie is OBSESSED with fish so we are putting together a small 10 gallon tank for her to hopefully help with the transition to having a baby brother. I really think she is going to do great though, she seems to love him already!

At this point, I am not sure there is much point sharing them, but here are the last two ultrasound pictures of the pregnancy! The top one is a straight on shot of his face, the white area in the middle is his forehead and his nose (it looks so big!) the dark spots on either side are where his eyes are. The second is a profile shot and to me it looks like his hands are up right below his chin.

11 days to go!!!

So, second to last doctor's appointment today. 37 weeks, 2 days pregnant - baby boy will be born in a week and a half! I am SO excited I can hardly stand it, but I am still scared to death of the surgery aspect of it. I know I have had one already and I survived that one, so I am trying to let that comfort me.

We had an ultrasound again today... it took longer than usual. Baby's heart rate was elevated again, but within normal so they aren't worrying about it. I ranged between 158 and 190 today during the ultrasound, closer to 160 and 170 most of the time... he also didn't want to cooperate with the moving part of the ultrasound so we had to wait for a while to make sure he was moving okay. My bp is still in the 120/80 range which I think has surprised my doctor immensely. He was expecting that I would need to start the BP meds before the end of my pregnancy. My weight is also good still, basically gained 5 lb or so from my pre-pregnancy weight, so that's good.

--Baby's heart rate as mentioned above ranged from 158-190
--femur is measuring approx 39 weeks 2 days, so two weeks ahead
--abdomen is measuring approx 37 weeks 3 days, so approximately normal
--head is measuring approx 40 weeks 2 days, so three weeks ahead
--his weight is estimated to be approximately 7 lb and 7 oz - most likely baby boy will end up being close to what Natalie weighed at birth (she was 8 lb 2 oz

I am too lazy to cut the ultrasound pictures apart in the photo editing program so you will have to click this to enlarge it and hopefully you will be able to see everything okay...

My next appointment is next Wednesday, then the c-section is scheduled for Monday August 31 at 7:30 am (we have to be at the hospital at 5:30 AM- ew), so we are hoping to have an email out by noon with birth details!

Things are as ready as they can be here, the house is slightly cluttered and not as clean as I would like, but I think that goes along with having a two year old! Natalie's potty training is going pretty well, will be happy when she is totally potty trained!

Tommy and I may be going to a concert in October, depending on the price and availability of tickets. Daughtry will be here October 26 and its one of the few performers that we can both enjoy - we have COMPLETELY opposite taste in music for the most part! Will be a first for us using a babysitter, which I am nervous about, but I thought it would be a nice post baby treat for us!

Time to get running, Natalie is making a mess of my house!!

36 weeks 3 days...

So, the countdown is on! Two more appointments to go, 17 days left as of today before my c-section. I can't wait for the new little one to be here, but I am really scared about the surgery. I know its so common now, but it is still major abdominal surgery...

My appointment today went well, was at the office for over an hour and a half again today... can't wait to be done with that!!! I am down almost 10 lbs in two weeks according to the doctors scale, I don't think I have lost that much but any loss is good at this point, less to lose later. I'm not dieting, so I guess its just the decrease in pregnancy hunger that is causing the weight loss. My bp looks good still which is always a relief. I got out of the group B strep test today since I am having a c-section... woohoo! I hated that test last time around!

Baby looks great on the ultrasound - heart rate was at 158. Moving great and breathing great. Amniotic fluid levels are perfect. He has his feet in the left side of my ribs and his butt in the right. He seems to rotate alot, most weeks he flips and will be the other way by the next ultrasound - guess he can't get comfortable in there. That makes two of us!

Baby had his face hidden, so we didn't get any face shots today. But we did get a shot of the foot as well as his boy parts. At least we know he is definitely a boy... LOL

I stopped by Babies R Us today to set up a small registry for people who have asked what types of things we need for baby still. They are running a deal where I got a $10 gift card for that, which was pretty nice. That will buy a pack of diapers at the very least!! I love it when you can find deals like that!

Anyway, here are the ultrasound pictures...

35 weeks, 2 days

Don't have much time tonight, just wanted to post really quickly for anyone who may actually read this... the appointment went well, didn't get to see my OB as he was called in to do a c-section.

Baby is still measuring large. His measurements put him at 37w3d - so two weeks and a day large. Head is measuring 38 weeks 4 days, as is the femur. His abdomen is measuring 35 weeks 4 days. With these measurements that puts him at approx 6 lb 11 oz. His heartrate was 153 bpm today, which is perfect. He rotated himself and now has his butt on the left side under my ribs and his feet are in the right side of my ribs! He was sleepy this morning so they had to buzz him, but he passed his biophysical profile.

The ultrasound pictures are getting ridiculously hard to see, but here is a face on shot, all you can really see is the outline of the top of his face, the dark area of one eye, the light area of the nose, and light areas showing the chin and maybe teeth buds?

My blood pressure was good again today 122/78. Weight went down according to the OBs scale, which is always nice at this point in the pregnancy. I did get a prescription for a z-pack to try to make sure I don't end up with bronchitis before my surgery. I have had a cough that I thought was allergies for a week, but its just not getting better, so preventative meds were prescribed. Love the NP I saw today, but wish I could have seen my OB as I had several questions for him.

Need to get to bed, long day tomorrow, errands, playgroup, groceries, and then Tommy's family is stopping down tomorrow evening... glad its almost the weekend!

34 weeks, 2 days!

It seems like I live at the doctor's office anymore. Today was my 34 week ultrasound/appt. Everything is still looking good. Baby scored 8 out of 8 on the biophysical profile again. Fluid levels are good, breathing and moving well. His heart rate was a bit high again today, but well within normal - 165 bpm.

My blood pressure looked great today! 120/68!! I was really excited to see that and my doctor was very pleased as well! We talked about the preventative measures we will take to avoid a wound infection this time around - hopefully they pay off.

That's really about it, nothing too exciting going on in our lives right now... just trying to get by... 32 more days!

Some ultrasound pictures...

33 weeks, 3 days today!

The countdown is on... 38 more days until my scheduled c-section. If all goes well we will be holding our new son in a little more than a month. Of course, that still seems so far away. I am still going to FREQUENT doctors visits and ultrasounds so they could decide at any point that baby is better outside than in my tummy. So far, he's looking pretty much perfect though. He scores 8's pretty much every week on the biophysical profiles... typically the score can be to 10, but they aren't doing stress tests, so I believe 8 is the best he can do.

For those of you who aren't sure how the biophysical profile works, I found this online:
"In a biophysical profile, the fetus receives a score of either 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10, based on the presence or absence of five elements: reactive nonstress test, adequate amount of amniotic fluid, fetal tone (bending and straightening the joints), fetal body movements (rolls), and fetal breathing motions (in-and-out motions of the chest wall). The fetus gets either 2 or 0 points for the presence or absence of the above five factors. A score of 8 or 10 is considered normal. A score of 0 or 2 is never considered normal. Scores of 4 and 6 are worrisome; delivery would be appropriate at term, but further evaluation may be appropriate in the case of pregnancies far from the due date."

I did have a scare yesterday at my appt, during the ultrasound baby boy's heart rate was up to 178-200 range. Mostly around the 178 but still, much higher than usual. This of course had me very worried - the tech took the heart rate several times so I knew it wasn't something they were expecting to see. She told me we would see what my Dr. said. Of course, then I had to sit in a waiting room thinking the worst for 30 minutes which got my blood pressure up there. So, after a blood pressure reading of 142/90 I was devastated and was sure that my doctor would put me on the blood pressure meds. I was right, he was VERY concerned about the BP, but I did convince him to let me come in today and get it re-checked due to the stress of the ultrasound.

Luckily, my bp was down today... 130/74. Normally I am around 120/80. The nurse practitioner told me I don't need to worry about the meds... apparently the bottom number is good, and the top number they don't worry about til it gets near 150. And baby's heart rate was back to normal: 155 bpm. He did hide from her doppler machine though, he didn't want her to hear him.

And, as usual, an ultrasound picture from yesterday... just a profile shot.

32 weeks

32 weeks down, 7 more to go.... well, down to closer to 6 weeks now because this update is overdue.

This was a non-appt week, I just had the weekly ultrasound (no measurements, just checking on breathing and movements etc). Baby is looking good still. Amniotic fluids level are good, as well as the placenta and umbilical cord. Baby boy did excellent this week on the breathing but had to be convinced to wake up to do movements. Heart rate was at 150 bpm.

Ultrasound pictures:

Not much else going on, lots of contractions and pelvic pain, but thats to be expected with the second pregnancy and with a large baby. We will see if we make it to our August 31 c-section.

We are slowly trying to get our house picked up and ready for baby... its slow going with a two year old tearing everything out behind you, but we are getting there. We have a few rooms per weekend on our to do list. We are going to get the nursery done this weekend so its ready if baby comes early.

Time to go to bed!

4th of July and 31 week Appt!

We celebrated the 4th a day early with a BBQ for Tommy's work at his boss' house. We had a good time, good food, good company, and nice fireworks. Here are a few pictures of Natalie and the fireworks...

Today was my 31 week appointment, things went well. Baby looked good during the ultrasound although they did have to "buzz" him to wake him up, but he had been active all morning, so I expected this. His heartbeat was 159 bpm and he is measuring about 4 lb 7 oz!!!! Normally at this age they would still be less than 4 lb, so he's definitely not a small baby! His measurements are:
- head: 34w6d
- stomach: 31w2d
- femur: 33w3d
Based on this info, they say he's measuring at 33 weeks and 5 days! And I am only 31 weeks today!!!

My BP looked great again today and I had a minor weight gain... I am officially up 6 pounds since this pregnancy started. Not too bad, but I hope I can keep it under control for the last 2 months! Anyway, a few ultrasound pictures and then I have to get running - baseball game tonight...

30 weeks and counting!

I had my 30 week ultrasound yesterday, followed by a add-in appointment with my OB. The ultrasound went well, though it was with a different tech than usual, which made me kind of sad, I love Stephanie! Baby did very well though, they didn't do measurements as they only do those every two weeks. However, baby did all his practice breathing and movements that he should be doing. And, my amniotic fluid levels look great, so thats always good news. I only got one photo, and its not the best, but here it is:

On to the appointment: I called on Monday due to some intense pelvic pain I have been having and frequent braxton hicks contractions. My doctor said that unfortunately there isn't much that can be done for the pain, and they will just monitor to make sure I am not having any cervical changes (which could indicate preterm labor). He did tell me on days that I wake up in pain to make that a day I don't do anything. That doesn't seem to be very helpful in getting things done around the house though. My blood pressure is still doing great and I haven't gained any weight in a while either, which is good news.

I got a call this morning from the nurses to schedule my c-section... we are on the calendar for August 31 at 7:30 am, which means I have to be to the hospital at 5:30 am! EW. I tried to schedule for Sept 1, but doc was unavailable. Oh yay. Monday's are Dr. Boyd's OR days though, so that works out good for me and I shouldn't have to worry about his schedule changing.... as long as baby stays in there until then. And of course any emergency c-sections could push my time back, but it can't be worse than last time... I'm HOPING!!!

29 week appt!

Things are looking good still with baby. We had our second attempt at a 3D ultrasound today, but baby boy is still not cooperating, so we have given up. The ultrasound tech managed to get two decent pictures, but we were not charged because she didn't feel that we got enough to be charged for. She will keep watching him at all the ultrasounds and see if she can get any decent ones, but the chances get slimmer the further along I get because he will just keep getting bigger and burying his face more in the placenta.

Health wise he is doing great, his head is still measuring 3 weeks big, and technically he is measuring about a week ahead, but he is only in the 55% for his gestational age, so he's really not too big. Doctor said he will probably be around Natalie's size maybe a bit smaller as he will be delivered a week early. He was moving around great today and his heart rate was 155 bpm. Still a bit lazy on the practice breathing, but he did it today without being "buzzed" so thats great. They said often times they don't catch the practice breathing on the ultrasounds so not to be too worried about it.

I am hoping to get a preliminary c-section date on the calendar in the next few days, Dr. Boyd said his nurse will be calling me to set something up. I am thinking it will probably be Tuesday, Sept 2 - unless of course he doesn't do surgeries those days...

Anyway, here are pictures from today's ultrasound...

And for comparison's sake... here is a 3D of Natalie...

Dear Baby...

While I am glad you are no longer breech, did you REALLY have to flip the NIGHT BEFORE our 3D ultrasound? I am glad you are in the right position for birth now, but it isn't helpful for Mommy and Daddy when you bury your face in the placenta and don't allow us to see your adorable face. And your big sister Natalie really wants to see what her little brother looks like too, she gives you kisses all the time and would love to know who baby is :)

Love you,
Mommy

My ultrasound went good today, baby is moving well and doing the practice breathing he should be again... although, he does still appear lazy. As I mentioned above, he is no longer breech, he turned in the middle of the night last night... I felt it enough to wake me up subconciously so much so that I thought it had been a dream. They didn't actually do measurements today because they figure every week at this point is overkill. I will get measurements of baby (as well as attempt a second 3D ultrasound - good thing they didn't charge me this time!) next week! I have the 3D ultrasound at 9 am Wednesday and then my other "diagnostic" ultrasound at 3pm and will see the OB at 4. I wish they could have gotten the times closer together, but unfortunately they only do the 3D at 9 am! UGH! We are not too hopeful about the 3D ultrasound next week, baby seems to be in the same position Natalie was in at this point, and she never unburied herself either. The ultrasound tech said that unless he moves it is unlikely we will get anything because the bigger he gets the more he will squish into the placenta! I guess he just wants to surprise us! From what we could tell though, he might look like Natalie... at least feature wise...

Not much else to update on since I did an update yesterday... but here are the ultrasound pictures from today

28 weeks..

28 weeks today! We have another ultrasound tomorrow, these weekly ultrasounds could make for a long rest of the pregnancy! We were planning to do the 3D ultrasound sometime around 30 weeks, but when I called to schedule they said with the baby measuring big we should do it now! So, for my birthday we doing a 3D ultrasound of baby #2! We already know its a boy, but are curious to see if he looks anything like Natalie. We did compare the 2D ultrasounds and we see very similar bone structure for the two babies... so who knows! I will be speechless if we have another fair skinned blue eyed baby though!

For those of you who can understand ultrasounds, compare these two pictures, do you see similarities in bone structure? The first is Natalie, the second is the new baby. Of course one is a scan and one is a file taken from our ultrasound CD, so the quality is a bit different...

In unrelated news, we had a problem with the Taurus about a week ago, it was leaking fluid, which was reddish in color, come to find out it was transmission fluid! While the car is relatively new (2006) and we bought an aftermarket warranty it didn't help us much in this care, because the repair was the same as the deductible. What is annoying is that the auto tech told me that it was a problem with the way the vent in the transmission works, so you would think it would be a recall issue and fixed for free, but of course we never get that lucky... it would have been fixed with a new car warranty, but alas, it was a year old car when we got it... sucks though as we would have easily been inside the new car warranty time period!

Though, in this bad news we had a really positive potty training experience... I was out ALL day with Natalie. I put her in a pull up and we made it home dry! She told me twice she had to go potty and the third time I just figured she needed to go and she did! It was exciting!

Yesterday we got our verizon FIOS service installed, and of course Tommy is excited about that. I could care less, to me, as long as I have internet I am happy! But, we all know Tommy needs to have the best possible! It took from around noon to 5 pm which was annoying but, at least its done! And in a month we will be receiving our $150 cash back reward for switching.. woohoo!

My birthday is on a Thursday this year, which I was disappointed about before because it was one of my babysitting days, but now I am no longer babysitting (the other babysitter they use is about as pregnant as me and no longer wants to work so instead of finding someone for the other 3 days they decided to put the Addie in daycare...) So, I will probably be relaxing on my birthday. Most likely we will go out to dinner at Bandido's (our local Mexican restaurant that gives a free birthday meal!) and then renting a movie from the redbox! Exciting plans I know, but hey it gets me out of the house so I am happy..

I am sure I am forgetting something I wanted to update about, but Natalie is getting cranky...

27 week update..

SO, its been a while since I updated this thing, I went to the OB today for my 27 week appointment. This was a dreaded appointment because I had to do the glucose testing as well as some other blood work, and I also was nervous about the biophysical profile ultrasound. As I expected, I was at the OB's office for quite a while today, over two hours. As far as the blood work I won't know anything for a few days.

But, Baby looks good... albeit big, but healthy, and lazy with a big head. Wonder who baby's taking after there... lol Baby is measuring 2 weeks ahead, so approx 29 weeks instead of the 27 it should be measuring. We did get confirmation that IT'S A BOY, so that's one good thing that came out of the ultrasound. They also told me that my placenta is up high in my uterus which could be why I am not feeling as much movement this time around. When he moves though, I can already see it through my tummy. Baby is breech as well, not only breech, but "butt first" as the tech said, so between that and the big head, I think its probably a good thing that I will most likely be having a c-section. My blood pressure is still looking good and my weight gain is still at approx 0 for the whole pregnancy (I lost 10ish lbs in the first month or so and then have been slowly gaining it back, although my weight gain for the last month is ZERO!) I now go every two weeks to see the OB, but I also got the "bad news" that I have to go EVERY WEEK for an ultrasound from here on out... I am confused as to why because everything looks fine... guess I will just be glad I get to see baby frequently... but man will I get tired of seeing that office by the time I am done!

So, I guess all is going as good as can be expected on that front. Tommy is mostly recovered from his gallbladder surgery. And, we are potty training Natalie!! She is doing excellent, she has absolutely NO accidents when running around bare bum. Now, we are going to transition her to big girl panties and see if she can master that. She still will be using pull-ups for nap and night time, but hey.. its progress!

Speaking of pull-ups, we got really lucky this weekend. I found an ad on CVS.com advertising Pampers Easy Ups for 8.99 and you got $5 ECB back (basically, cash to use in store... which I will turn around and use on another awesome sale.. I go EVERY Sunday!). So, that's 3.99 a package before my coupons... I ended up getting 3 packs basically free. Actually, the ad was an error on CVS's part, but thankfully they honored it for anyone who had purchased before they pulled the ad! :)

Pampers 8.99 - $1 coupon
Pampers 8.99 - $1 coupon
Pampers 8.99
Bayer 2.00 - $1 coupon
Candy for Natalie .88
Filler caramel .33

- $10 off $30 purchase CVS coupon
= approx $18 on my debit card
Got back $5 x 3 ($15) ECB for pampers and $2 ECB for the bayer (raincheck)
So, I got all the diapers, plus the other items for about a dollar!! Sweet deal!

Summer update

'bout time that we get an update in. Quite a bit has happened since the October update.

Best things first: Jenn is pregnant with our second lil' one. We're looking forward to our lil' boy late-August to beginning-of-September. Natalie seems excited and says "baby" often, especially when she sees ultrasound pictures... even little tiny ones that are sitting on the desktop of the computer.

Natalie is zipping along in speaking. She knows lots of words (never had the chance to start a list to count) and strings together some sentences, such as:
  • Help you (really meaning help me, but she imitates "Want us to help you")
  • Oliver, stay there
  • I get it; I drop it
  • Hold it (sometimes followed by what she wants held)
There's some others in there, with the list of words and sentences growing as time goes on.

Jenn has recently put together a bunch of scrapbook pages in a whirlwind scrapping frenzy while I was recovering, getting a large percent of what had been queued up complete... There's still quite a bit left, but she put quite a dent in it.

Speaking of my recovering, two weeks ago I had a gallbladder attack and went to the ER. At the time I didn't know it was the gallbladder and the doctor suggested that might be it... so I was sent home and set to schedule an ultrasound to figure out what in the world it was. I managed to get in Monday afternoon and was sent to get the surgery done ASAP. I was sent to the ER to get a doctor's validation of what needed to be done and was admitted right away. Late Tuesday I had the gallbladder taken out and went home Wednesday. Early recovery was not very friendly, laproscopic != simple process after reading up. All is good now and I just need to watch what I eat.

There's been some new things at work lately: new cubicles, a new intern, and an office manager. Work is as busy as ever with no shortage of things to do and client projects to complete.
